Athens Clarke County residents can now file incident reports digitally.
It’s important we have officers out there actually doing the policing,” said County Manager Blaine Williams.
Benefits of Digital Reports
Officers no longer have to come to the police department lobby to take a report, a process that takes them off the road for 30 to 40 minutes. And for citizens, they can file from anywhere.
“A person can file form their living room of course; they don’t have to get dressed to come out to the police department,” said Sgt. Jimmy Carter.
You can report an incident online at the police website or call to access a link.
There are currently eleven types of incidents you can report online. They include:
- Alarm permit registration
- Criminal trespass – property
- Criminal trespass – vehicle
- Entering auto
- Harassment
- House check request
- Identity fraud
- Lost property
- Private property accident report
- Theft by taking
- Theft by lost or mislaid property
Efficiency as a Goal
It usually takes three to five days for a report to process. Now, it happens in an hour.
“We both want to be efficient with out officers time. We want to be responsive to our citizens,” said Williams.
The new system went live last Monday and 32 people have already used it.
