Known for his flashy outfits, raconteur tendencies and love for all things Georgia, Dan Magill was the face of Bulldog sports for decades.
The University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex is also one of the most prestigious college tennis stadiums in the nation.
It’s the home of the Bulldogs’ men’s and women’s tennis programs, both of which have won national and Southeastern Conference championships many times over.
Perhaps more important, it also represents the lasting physical legacy of its iconic namesake: Magill himself.
Named after a man many believe to be the greatest Bulldog of all time, the complex is decorated with decades of Georgia tennis history. Dozens of trophies and pictures line the walls of the facilities as Magill’s name is inscribed on many banners and plaques; he is simply hard to miss.
Why It’s Newsworthy: The stadium will be renovated following the end of the college tennis season this May. UGA has confirmed the renovation project will total at least $8 million. Because this is a large sum of money, UGA students should know more about the planned improvements to the facility.
In order to fully appreciate the historical value of his complex, one has to first meet Magill.
