UGA’s “Fire Girl”

ATHENS, GA–A high toss, double front walkover catch, and high toss ariel catch… May sound a little strange to the average person, but these show-stopping moves are just a small part of Jameson Kenerly’s Saturdays. She is one of UGA’s three feature twirlers, but she stands out as an internationally ranked twirler and former Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen. This Saturday will only be her 4th Saturday performing between the hedges, but she’s no stranger to the spotlight.

She says, “I claim I was born with silver sticks in my hand.”

Jameson performs alongside her sister, Adeline–they are self-proclaimed best friends and worst enemies, but at the end of the day, they are each other’s number one fans. She says that anytime she needs a pick-me-up, her sister is always there to say “It’s okay Jameson, you can do this.”

Tied for the number one fan spot is mom Joy Kenerly–a former twirler in the 1980’s. She gets to watch both her girls perform together every Saturday, her favorite part of the week.

Joy says of her girls both being twirlers, “To be honest, I dreamed this dream. I did hope.”

All of Jameson’s success did not come without sacrifice. Growing up, she often had to say “no” to sleepover invitations and hang outs because she couldn’t miss practice. It definitely has not been an easy ride, but performing on Saturdays makes it all worth it.

She says, “There is absolutely no greater feeling than stepping out on the grass every Saturday. It just makes all of my sacrifices worth it.”

Jameson looks forward to the rest of the season and is hopeful for three more years on the Sanford Stadium grass. She can not imagine herself anywhere else.

Catch Jameson Kenerly perform every UGA home game at Sanford Stadium. Grab your drinks and pop corn early, and stay seated for the half-time show. It will be hard to miss her because her batons will be on fire… Literally.
