Alcohol Changes in Jackson County

No lines and a short wait. Early voting began at 8 o’clock this morning in Jackson County. The big issue on the ballot this election: alcohol.

Lori Wurtz, elections supervisor for Jackson County said that when there’s an alcohol referendum on the ballot they see more voters.

Nicholson and Pendergrass each have their own changes that they’re voting on. Right now in Nicholson, you can’t order an alcoholic drink when you’re out to eat. This vote would change that.

“When you go into an establishment to eat that you could order an alcoholic drink and be served that drink in the premises — that means you could go dine somewhere and receive a drink,” says Wurtz.

Pendergrass residents will use their vote to decide on Sunday alcohol sales.

“Theirs is whether or not they should sell alcohol on Sundays so right now in the city of Pendergrass you cannot buy alcohol on Sundays and that would change if this passes,” says Wurtz.

There has been no known outcry to the proposed alcohol changes in these counties.
