The day has arrived: Election Day 2020.

And on this day, I’m excited to share a special Election Day episode of The Lead featuring Astead Herndon, a national politics reporter for The New York Times. When Astead and I spoke about two weeks ago, he discussed reporting on the 2020 presidential election, as well as how journalists can gain trust from audiences in this current political moment.

Astead emphasizes the importance of being in the moment and present in history, but he also reminds us to step back to take a break, breathe and appreciate a wide variety of interests. He offers great advice from breaking out of the college bubble to better connect with different communities.
