The University of Georgia class of 2029 exceeds the class of 2028 in every area. Test scores, GPAs and average AP course scores are the highest that the university has seen in recent years.
Some students who have already completed one full year at the university said Thursday they do not think they would have been admitted if they had applied in the most recent application cycle.
“I would say my experience is a little bit, like, different because I actually transferred in from UNG (University of North Georgia) Oconee,” said junior transfer student Madelyn Paris. “I actually didn’t get into UGA the first time, but I did have 11 AP and dual enrollment classes combined. I think it was probably my GPA, and SAT was not high enough. I think it’s just going to keep getting harder.”

Paris’s 11 AP and dual enrollment classes align with the class of 2029 admissions average of 11. This surpasses the class of 2028 average of 10. Since her other statistics were below the average, she thinks this is why she was denied admission straight from Cambridge High School in Milton, Georgia. However, once Paris attended UNG and raised her GPA, she was accepted to UGA in the fall of 2024.
The average GPA of first-year students has increased from 4.13 in 2028 to 4.17 in 2029.
“I don’t think I would be able to get in with the class of 2029,” said sophomore Lauren Ruddy, a biomedical sciences major from Sandy Springs, Georgia.
The class of 2029 consists of 215 Georgia valedictorians and salutatorians, a slight increase from the 208 in the class of 2028.
A sophomore journalism major, Addy McCoy, said she has noticed that the smarter classes have made the university seem more prestigious, which she appreciates.
