In Oconee County, students are learning lessons about recycling and the environment that they’ll carry forward into the future, on the way to a greener county.
The Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission is an initiative that works with school districts and other public works around the county to raise overall awareness of proper recycling habits, with a particular focus on education among schoolchildren.
Supporters of the program claim childhood education is a good method to spread awareness and generate interest in sustainability. The lessons being learned inside the classroom are making their way home, inspiring families and schoolchildren to take recycling more seriously.
Through school and community initiatives that emphasize environmental responsibility, people in the county are becoming more aware of the importance of following sustainable practices on a daily basis.
