Candidate FAQs

Q: Why are you running?

“As a retired Army colonel who served 39 years, I am deeply troubled by the disregard for the U.S. Constitution,” DeLancy said in an interview. “I’ve taken an oath to the Constitution numerous times, and those first three words are ‘We, the people.’ We’ve never taken an oath as a military person to an administration or to a president of the United States, and I just see constant violation.”

Q: What experiences have prepared you for this office?

DeLancy is a retired Army colonel and maintains an active registered nursing license in Georgia. She said these experiences have given her a “people over politics” mindset, emphasizing her role as a public servant.

Q: What are the most important issues facing the state of Georgia and what would you do to address them?

DeLancy said the price of healthcare, economic relief and public safety are three issues most important to her. She said in an interview that she believes in universal and affordable healthcare for all American families, plans to limit the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence data centers and believes people should feel safe in their schools and neighborhoods. She said she aims to work collaboratively with community leaders, law enforcement and schools to achieve a safe environment for everyone.

Q: What is one accomplishment you hope to achieve during your office if elected?

“I can tell you one of the major accomplishments I would like to see is being able to vote for universal health care for all,” DeLancy said in an interview. “I think the United States is so behind the schedule on that, and you know we need to be the leaders of that. We have more than enough money in funds, and there’s no reason why any American citizen should have to go bankrupt for medical care, or have to decide whether they’re going to eat or buy medication.”

Q: What is one thing you want voters to know about you? What is your message to younger voters, such as UGA students?

“To University of Georgia students, I say be informed,” DeLancy said in an interview. “Visit my website, see what I represent, and if our values align, I ask for your vote. As a nurse and military veteran, I’ve served everyone regardless of political affiliation. In the ER, you treat every patient. Everyone needs basic necessities like housing, healthcare and affordable living. I will always put people over politics and represent everyone in District 10.”

Candidate FAQs

Q: Why are you running?

“Unfortunately, it seems too many politicians forget their job is to serve others,” according to his website. “One of the most important jobs — if not the most important job — of a congressman is constituent services. Q: What experiences have prepared you for this office?

Gaines served in the Georgia House of Representatives since 2019. He served as UGA’s student body president while at the university, and in 2020, he was named one of UGA’s 40 under 40, according to his campaign website.
