For most families, Christmas is a time filled with family, food and presents– lots of presents. However, some families don’t get to experience Christmas that way.

That’s the case for Lisa Howard and her four children. Howard underwent surgery on her leg and has been out of work since August. This meant that Christmas was going to be something they couldn’t afford this year.

That’s where Community Christmas of Oglethorpe County comes in. Community Christmas is a program that provides gifts to families that can’t afford them during the holiday season. All of the money for the presents is donated or received from fundraisers.

Catherine Drewry, the founder of Community Christmas of Oglethorpe County, expects the program will provide over 500 families with presents this Christmas. Each family accepted into the program will receive between 75 and 100 dollars.

Howard’s family will be one of those 500 families that pick up their presents on December 15 at Crawford Baptist Church. For more information on how to apply or donate visit the Community Christmas website.
