Caregivers, Cannabis on Tap for Georgia General Assembly

By Shaquira Speaks

On Tuesday, legislators will hear families who say they cannot bring medical cannabis oil on school campuses.

Right now, you can legally possess medical cannabis, with a registered medical card, in the state of Georgia… but it is illegal to grow it in state. The committee discussed changing the law last week and tomorrow will be the second hearing.

A new bill in the state senate called “Caregivers’ Registry” will require background checks of employees at nursing homes conduct criminal background checks on all employees. It would also allow certain employers access to the background checks and other pertinent information.

The bill would require job applicants and current employees to consent to a national and state background check, which includes a registry check, a check of information maintained by a professional licensing board, and a criminal background check.
