Police Investigating Reported Rape Attempt

UGA, Clarke County police searching for supposed rapist

Athens, Ga (Grady NewSource) – Police are looking for an alleged attacker after a victim says he tried to rape and assault her Friday afternoon, a warning e-mailed to University of Georgia students indicates.

University of Georgia police say a victim reported a man tried to rape her at knife point Friday at 4:20 p.m. near the Botanical Garden complex off South Milledge Avenue, according to the message sent about an hour after the alleged attack.  The victim told police the man approached her and threatened to rape her and cause bodily harm. After some conversation with the man, the victim was able to get away unharmed.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet in height, weighing approximately 150 pounds with short blonde hair. At the time of the alleged incident he was wearing blue sweatpants, a hooded green and white sweatshirt, white running shoes and black sunglasses.  The knife was described as an orange pocket or utility knife.

University of Georgia and Athens-Clarke County Police Department officers are currently in the area and actively searching for this individual.  Anyone who may have information regarding this incident or may have seen this individual is asked to call 911 or the UGA Police Department at 706-542-2200.
