Jamie Hood Pleads Not Guilty

Hood accused of killing cop, taking hostages in 2011

Athens, Ga (Grady NewSource) – Accused cop killer Jamie Hood plead not guilty to 70 counts – including murder and kidnapping – in Clarke County Superior Court Friday, the Athens Banner Herald reports. 

Hood’s trail has been delayed numerous times due to the recusal of a judge and challenges to Hood’s mental competency to stand trial.

Hood is accused of killing Kenneth Omari Wray on December 28, 2010. Three months later, Hood is said to have kidnapped a witness in the Wray killing. Police began searching for Hood after the witness escaped and called 911. Hood allegedly shot responding officers Tony Howard and Elmer ‘Buddy’ Christian, the latter of whom would succumb to his gunshot wounds.

After disappearing for three days, Hood barricaded himself inside an Athens home with hostages. He eventually surrounded on live television.
