March for Our Lives Protest to Take Place Saturday

March For Our Lives is a protest against guns in schools. Two protests will be held this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Watkinsville and 1 p.m. in Athens, alongside hundreds of other protests across the nation.

The nationwide movement is in response to recent and deadly school shootings.

Grady Newsource reached out to Mindy Griffith, a student attending the March For Our Lives in Athens who grew up with multiple guns in her household. She is now a Music Education student at UGA. Her dream: To teach students without having to carry a weapon to class.

“Even my dad and everyone who is pro-gun in my life is very adamant that guns don’t belong in schools,” Griffith says. “They don’t belong with teachers. It’s not ‘arm teachers so that we can protect our students,’ it’s ‘let’s make a more strict regulation,’ so that we don’t have these assault rifles and crazy things going around that no one needs for self defense.”

March for Our Lives mission statement is simple: Not one more.

Parents and students will join side-by-side on Saturday to help bring an end to gun violence in schools. They demand that Congress puts together a comprehensive bill that will address the seemingly growing number of gun issues in America.
