By: Erin O’Brien

Halloween hasn’t passed, but some Oglethorpe County residents are already thinking about Christmas.

Catherine Drewry and volunteers will hold interviews this weekend for potential recipients in the annual Community Christmas charity. The nonprofit organization, which got its start over two decades ago, provides gifts for children up to age 18 (if still in school) who come from families in poverty.

Interview dates for potential recipients:

  • Friday, Oct. 16, 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 17, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

What to bring if you hope to qualify:

  • I.D.
  • Proof of residency in Oglethorpe
  • Income information
  • Clothing sizes of children in household

Interviews will be held at Crawford Baptist Church, located at 124 Church St.

If you’d like to make a donation:

  • Make tax-deductible donations on the organization’s website.
  • Donations also may dropped off in person with Sheryl Appling at the Commercial Bank in Crawford.
  • Mail donations to Community Christmas, 143 Bowen Farm Road, Crawford, GA 30630.

There will also be other toy and gift collections held at various locations. Grady Newsource will provide updates when additional times and locations are named.
