5 Things to Know Today

 

1. ATHENS, GA- A “peaceful protest” is planned for 5:30 today in Athens in honor of Michael Brown. Brown was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. It’s planned to start at the Arch downtown and end in the Tate Plaza. Reporter Bianna Watts will be live at the Arch today at 5:00. She’s talking to those marching to find out their goal for today.

2. JEFFERSON COUNTY, GA- Police are warning about a new scam. It’s called the “secret santa shopper scam.” Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum says, “It’s unbelievable with the amount of scams we have.. and people fall for it! They’re nothing but thieves.” Reporter Naome Seifu will tell what the scam is about, and how to avoid them.

3. ATHENS, GA– Speaking of scams, Christmas break is getting closer each day. Many students and faculty leave town for the holidays. In turn, many vacant homes are an easy target for burglars. Reporter Geetu Vailor will tell you what you can do to protect your home.

4. ATHENS, GA- Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over.. but how successful were they? Reporter Heather Hyatt will tell you how well they went. Yesterday we told you about Red Dress, a local boutique, that expected extreme Cyber Monday success. Hyatt will let you know how it went.

5. ATHENS, GA–  The UGA women’s basketball team is undefeated going into their game tonight versus Coppin State. Sports Anchor Briana Belser tells you what other games are coming up in the community.
