ATHENS, Ga-  The Georgia Accountability Court Program has saved taxpayers about 50 million dollars, reduced the state prison population, and is giving drug offenders a second chance. Georgia’s prison population has fallen almost 5000 since Governor Deal established a Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform for Georgia in 2011 to address the issues. Reporter Brittney Laryea met with a state court judge on friday to find out exactly how the programs works.
