JACKSON COUNTY, GA- Having your street number on your mailbox can save your life, but only if first responders can see them. Having highly visual, reflective numbers on your mailbox helps emergency crews get to you as fast as possible.

Firefighter, Kevin Anderson says “A call like a cardiac arrest. The emotions are high, you’re trying to get there fast, you’re trying to make a difference, you’re trying to be safe.”

He says its very easy to pass by a mailbox and not know what the street number is. Which means valuable time has been lost as emergency crews have to turn around to try to locate a residence.

Anderson says that delay can add anywhere from five to ten to fifteen minutes to their arrival time.

The South Jackson Fire Department recommends adding at least three inch reflective letters to both sides of the mailbox where they can easily be seen from the road.
