People in the Athens-Northeast Georgia community are discussing some of those awkward topics you typically want to avoid at family dinners.

The Richard B, Russell Special Collections Librbrary on the campus of the University of Georgia is the site for a community forum at 2p.m to discuss “The Divided States of America”.

“How can we get work done?” That’s the question the forum moderator Jan Levinson wants members of the community to answer.

The divide between Liberals and Conservatives is the greatest this country has seen since the Civil War. The divide is illustrated by the fact that the number of moderates in the House of Representatives dropped from 79% to 3% over the past forty years.

Levinson says she’s bringing the community together to the group will explore three different ways communities can find common ground on issues that have our country at a divide that include revitalizing cooperation, standing up for what you believe in, and bringing in more people on these different issues.

Reporter Leah La Rosa will be attending the forum and we will keep you updated on all of our social media accounts for the latest information. @GradyNewsource
