Today, 58 municipalities in the state of Georgia are voting on whether people can purchase alcoholic beverages starting at 11 a.m. on Sundays.
The current law, which was passed in 2011, permits people to start purchasing alcoholic beverages at 12:30 p.m.
Gov. Nathan Deal signed the initial bill earlier this year. State Sen. Frank Ginn, R-Danielsville, whose constituents include the residents of Athens, is one of the sponsors on the brunch bill.
Glanny Lozano, a senior at the University of Georgia, voted yes on the amendment.
“I voted for it just because I turned 21 on a Sunday, and I literally had to sit there for like an hour-and-a-half and wait. I think it would be good for businesses,” Lozano said.
Polling locations are open until 7 p.m.
