UGA head football coach reacts to Ray Rice incident

By now, you’ve seen and heard about former Baltimore Raven, Ray Rice, assaulting his then-fiancee Janay Palmer.

However, the domestic violence issues aren’t exclusive to Rice and the Ravens. Georgia head coach Mark Richt is no stranger to handling the domestic violence issues with his football players. Earlier this summer, former defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor was dismissed from the team for aggravated assault and family violence.

Today, Coach Richt talked about how he’s handled these issues within his team. He’s had the Athens-Clarke County police and former players talk to players about off-the-field issues and the consequences. He even holds a half-hour character education program every Thursday. Despite the programs, Coach Richt knows that his players aren’t  immune to bad decisions.

“Unfortunately, you know, life happens out there sometimes,” says Richt. “Guys don’t always make the best decisions and I’m not talking about just Georgia players, I’m talking about young men across America.”
