Are Your Pipes Ready for Winter?

Nov 19 | Athens, Ga

Story Highlights

  • A local insurance agent says many renters in our area do not have tenant insurance.
  • This means that if a pipe bursts, renters would NOT be reimbursed by the property management company for water damages to renters belongings.
  • If you do have renters insurance, then the insurance company will pay for the damages.

The phone is ringing off the hook at Carson’s Plumbing.

Josh Carson, the owner, is obviosuly busy taking his customers’ calls. He is expecting even more calls in the upcoming weeks as the temperature drop even more.

Repairing pipes is expensive…. insurance can offset those bills…but as one insurance agent warns….not all insurance is created equal.

The pamphlets urge renters to get tenant or renters insurance. So if pipes burst, and your belongings are ruined, you can cover the cost.

Carson says leaving your faucet dripping may not be enough to prevent pipes from bursting. You should check all pipes indoors and outdoors to see if they are exposed.

Buying renters insurance could be as cheap as a DVD. The avereage price for a tenant insurance policy can average ten dollars per month.
