Athens-Clarke County Police Now Required to Wear Body Cameras

ATHENS- All Athens-Clarke County police officers are required to wear body cameras starting today. Police chief Carter Greene says that most law enforcement agencies use body cameras if they can afford them. Greene says that “it’s a good way of being transparent… We’re as transparent as possible with the community, and we dont try to hide things. Those are the things you need to establish with the community before things like Ferguson occur.”

Chief Green says video is a powerful tool, and because of recent police shootings around the country, the use of body cameras is becoming more common.
