Athens, GA- For the second time in 5 years, “Bag the Bag UGA” is making an effort to cut back on the use of plastic bags. Bag the Bag is an official UGA Club. The purpose of the program is to be more conservative with the use of plastic in the environment. Right now “Bag the Bag UGA” wants stores to charge a fee for individual plastic bags. The fee could be anywhere from 5 cents to 10 cents. Bell’s Food Store could be one of many stores in Athens to be affected by this plastic bag fee if one is ever approved. Clarke County Commissioners Jared Bailey, Allison Wright, and Jerry NeSmith currently support the plastic bag fee. They need a majority of commissioners and the mayor’s support to get this fee passed. Reporter Jordan Lee met with a “Bag the Bag UGA” official to find out what they are doing to pass this fee.
