Cedar Shoals High School Raises Awareness for Teen Dating Violence

ATHENS — Cedar Shoals High School is having a ceremony to remember one of its alumni who was a victim of dating violence. Darla Gibbons died last year after her boyfriend set her car on fire. February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and Georgia is currently ranked first in the country for teen violence. The Partnership Against Domestic Violence reported that one in three teenagers in Georgia have experienced teen dating violence. Cedar Shoals High School hopes the ceremony for Gibbons will raise awareness about the issues. Reporter Cara Lynn Clarkson spoke with UGA Professor Pamela Orpinas about teen violence. Find out more tonight at five.
