Crosswalks May Come to Milledge

By Savannah Brock

A new addition to one local street might save a pedestrian’s life. For years people on Milledge Avenue have been illegally crossing the street while dodging cars just to reach their bus stop.

Mid-block pedestrain islands would be placed at the bus stops along Milledge to keep cars from passing the stopped buses. The island would protect pedestrians by providing crosswalks as well as serve as a refuge for when they cross the street.

On Oct. 6, Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Board of Commissioners will vote on the $180,000 crosswalk improvement project.
