Athens, GA – Some minority students at The University of Georgia hope to shed some light on how they are treated on campus. A new documentary entitled “Oh to be Young, Gifted, and Black: BUGA Under the Lens” focuses on what it means to be an African American at UGA. Last night UGA Elite and the Black Male Leadership Society, the two black student organizations that created the film, screened the film in front of about 30 black students.
Jamari Jordan is the executive producer for this film project. He says, “God gives each of us a voice. I hope I’m just using mine the best way I know how.” Here are some more of Jordan’s responses to the film’s release:
Over 30 black females and males stayed 30 mins after the discussion to continue to talk. That was my goal for this film. Thank you all.

I want to genuinely thank everyone who came out. Much needed conversation. Keep the dialogue going. #BUGAScreening — Jamari Jordan (@iJamari) November 18, 2014
If a few people start to reach out and change their perception of BUGA, then all my hard work was worth it. It’s about growth. — Jamari Jordan (@iJamari) November 18, 2014
Allison Williams is one of the student who attended the screening. She says, “The film was necessary to BUGA. It reminded us of our purpose here and that we’re each other’s greatest resource.” Below are some of the other audience reactions:
#BUGAScreening was necessary to get the networking started. Now, we just have to keep the momentum going and make big things happen — Takiyah.. (@2cupsofT_) November 18, 2014
For the most part, we had older people take us in and show us the way. It’s on US to do the same for the younger generation. #BUGAScreening
