Athens, GA – PC USA now allows same sex marriage. They amended their constitution March 17th. Grady Newsource Reporter Rebecca Scott investigates how the decision could effect churches in Athens.turn out that a lot of Presbyterian churches have already been performing same sex marriages in states where it is legal. But in Georgia where same sex marriage is illegal churches like this one hold covenant union ceremonies.
Reverend Harper told Grady Newsource that because of this new amendment they will start issuing certificates for the couples. Covenant Presbyterian gives out certificates for baptisms and confirmations. Reverend Harperr said he would rather give out marriage certificates but until it is legal he must respect the law.
