For those of you wanting to learn first-hand about the controversy in which students and the Red and Black walked off the job, go to the website redanddead.com. It has a number of posts, including one from the student editor-in-chief….
I, Polina Marinova, have resigned as the editor-in-chief from The Red & Black, the student newspaper covering the University of Georgia. The Red & Black’s top editors, design staff, photo staff and reporters walked out of the newspaper building this afternoon.
You can read her whole statement on the website. You can also access the “draft memo” which may be at the center of the controversy. It outlines supposed ‘guidelines’ for the newspaper staff, including a focus on “good” versus “bad.”
Of particular interest to many of you, there is a video of the pre-eminent journalism professor, Conrad Fink, talking about the meaning of journalism. Professor Fink was well respected at the college, the university and throughout the country. He died earleir this year.
