An 8ft. metal sculpture was dedicated to Bear Hollow Zoo this morning by local artist Harry Rittenberry, Jr.
Over 30 Athens residents attended the ceremony and many feel the art piece will inspire visitors who walk the trails every day. Clint Murphy says Rittenberry’s piece embodies its Serengeti Dreams name and will bring hope to many of the zoo’s visitors, “We want to inspire them so their dreams are much bigger than what they may have had coming here.”
Rittenberry originally created the piece for fun, but after its donation to Bear Hollow believes, “it’s right where it needs to be.” Children pass right by the sculpture as they head to a kids theatre area in the zoo. Rittenberry says, “I was hoping it would come to some place like this.”
The dedication ceremony took place at 10:00 a.m. and is open to everyone.
