Surviving An Active Shooter

In the month of October alone, there have been four school shootings that resulted in injury or death. Here is a look at what you should do if you find yourself in the presence of an active shooter.

  • The first thing you should try to do is RUN. Flee the area as quickly as possible.
  • If you cannot get away from the area the shooter is in, HIDE. Be sure to lock and barricade yourself in a safe place, and wait to hear word from law enforcement.
  •  You do have the right to protect yourself, but taking action is only recommended if danger is imminent. In which case, use what ever resources you have around you to throw or increase space between you and the shooter.
  • You should NOT chase after the attacker, as the police may not be able to differentiate you from the attacker.
