The CHaRM of recycling in Athens

By Kristin Miller

Rainy weather is not dampening recycling efforts in Athens. The recycling division is now located in a large warehouse, and the new space allows residents to unload unwanted items – even in the rain.

People can drop off a small load of items for $5 per vehicle. Paint costs $2 per can to dispose, and other materials have specific fees calculated by the staff.

Hazardous waste specialist Chris Griffin said he hopes the cost to recycle will encourage people to ask questions and become more educated about recycling.
