Top 3 Reasons Ice Could Shut Down Athens

A severe winter storm could pound Athens with ice tomorrow, and that could have drastic effects.  The National Weather Service projects around a half inch of ice to fall on Wednesday, in addition to snow and high winds.  An ice storm of this magnitude could possibly shut down the city for a few reasons.

1.  The roadways could be coated, causing extremely dangerous driving conditions.  Anyone on the roads tomorrow should proceed with extreme caution.

2.  Thick ice can weigh down power lines, and could cause power outages around the area.

3.  The ice would also weigh down tree branches, and possibly break limbs.  Tree damage could be a common sight around Athens in the next couple of days.

Any updates on the conditions will be posted  on our website.
