UGA President: ‘No Bacterial Meningitis’ at University

University of Georgia President Jere Morehead spoke out today, this time to personally assure students there is NO threat to their health. Morehead made his comments in the wake of the death of UGA Freshman Tanzila Alam. He said the focus should not be on the rumors surrounding the cause of her death. He shared the university’s sympathy for Alam’s death at such a young age with her family and friends.

Morehead said that medical experts have told him that there is no bacterial meningitis at UGA. There has been speculation as to why the university had not addressed her cause of death earlier. An official from the University Health Center says when there is no public risk, keeping the patient’s privacy is key.
