Can’t stop the sharing, that is what happened to one University of Georgia student’s “Can’t stop the feeling” sign language video. The video shows that even though someone can’t hear the music, doesn’t mean they cant enjoy the music video
Haley Beach, a second-year Communication Science and Disorders Major truly has a passion for signing and huge heart to reaching out to people that are deaf. That is why she chose to create an all sign language video to help raise awareness.
Beach says, “I think its important to remeber that deaf people can enjoy the same things that hearing people can, just because they cant hear the video doesnt mean that they cant enjoy the music video.
Beach also assists with the interpretation at an organization on campus, Baptist Collegiate Ministries. That is also where she has started an A-S-L small group to help make people more welcome.
BCM Minister, Nathan Byrd said this about Haley’s efforts, “I think Haley is starting to realize the opportunity that she has to minister both to those who are interedted in ASL and those who need ASL to be able to communicate.”
Luke Bundrum, a first year student who is currently in Haley’s small group this year, and also one of the stars in the video, had this to say about what an impact she and her small group has had on him in just the past month, “We all know know sign language and I can communicate, have fun, socialize, and it has been a great thing for me and I’m thankful God has given me Haley and the group.”
Haley hopes that the hearing world will become more deaf friendly, and that we will be more aware of our circumstances.
