UGA/LSU: The Student Section

ATHENS, Ga.— After students had problems getting into the student section for the South Carolina game, the UGA Athletic Association is making sure the LSU game goes smoothly.

Students may have to get a little closer to each other this Saturday for the LSU game. They are asking students to squeeze a little closer together to make sure everyone can fit. The Athletic Association says they also re-trained the game day staff to make sure students don’t have problems when they go to the game this Saturday.

Over 16,000 screaming fans sit in UGA’s student section on gamedays. But, that number gets bigger as the game gets more important. And with LSU coming into town, workers have been re-trained to handle the large crowd this week.

“Having a good communication process.” said Alan Thomas, the Associate AD for External Operations at UGA, “When the one section is full, where you push the to the next section where the seats are that go with that.”

Thomas says that having a split student section is what makes the staff’s communication important.

“One of the challenges is having a student section that s lower level, upper level and end zone.” Thomas said, “One may fill up faster than the other but we will certainly have the people on hand as well as making sure people know what all seats are available and where they are open at the time one fills up.”

Between College Gameday, CBS, and the stadium Red Out, expect a tight fit when you sit down in Sanford this Saturday. Thomas says that students should arrive early to make sure they get the seat they want.

“This is a game that nobody will want to miss.” said Thomas, “Expect it to be a full house, a full 92,000 plus.”

Thomas also said they are expecting 95,000 fans in Sanford, more than it’s normal capacity. It is a hot ticket this weekend with StubHub prices over 500 dollars.
