It’s day two of Government Shutdown and you should know soon if they’ll be a day three.
At 5:30 tonight, President Obama is meeting with congressional leaders from both parties to create what White House officials are calling a “clean” bill to bring Congress back together.
This is coming off a heated congressional debate last night. Republicans proposed a plan to refund the government piece by piece; starting with veteran pay, refunding Washington, D.C., and reopening National Parks.
Some Democrats called this plan “a waste of time” and blocked the proposal. And now words are flying in Washington.
President Obama calls Republicans “reckless” and suggests they do what they have to to get federal workers back on the job. Another Democrat says the Republicans can reopen the government at any time.
Republicans are quoted saying Democrats “won’t even have a discussion” and they’ve been “ready to talk.”
President Obama has made it clear he won’t budge on funding for his Affordable Care Act, telling crowds it’s “here to stay.”
Meanwhile, protestors carry signs that explain their frustration and say they’re tired of a Congress that “can’t govern this country.”
