5 Things You Need To Know – December 3rd, 2014

1. ATHENS, GA- A 2012 mandate requiring off-campus housing and businesses to provide recycling receptacles has been in place, but the transition hasn’t been quite as smooth as it would seem. The recycling authority set a January 1st, 2015 deadline for apartment complexes to comply with the regulations. Reporter Jordan Lee finds out why it’s taken nearly two years to get this policy noticed and in action.

2.BARROW COUNTY, GA- Barrow County is encouraging citizens to sign up for a Citizen Alert System. This notification systems immediately notifies users on severe weather, police activities, evacuations and other emergency situations.

3. ATHENS, GA- In the wake of the Ferguson decision early last week, protests and discussions are happening all week in Athens. People across the nation are calling for police to wear body cameras as part of their equipment. Reporter Taylor Saxton investigates how Athens-Clarke County is ahead of the times.

4. ATHENS, GA- Two UGA defensive backs are seeking paperwork to transfer schools this week. Sophomores Brendan Langley and J.J. Green will not be sporting red and black next year according to Sports Information Director, Claude Felton.

5. ATHENS, GA- Highs are expected to remain in the 60’s throughout the week, but rain is on its way. Student Meteorologist, Riley Hale is preparing a in-depth five day forecast for Athens and Northeast Georgia.
