ATHENS — The University of Georgia’s Special Collections Library will now host a Habitat for Humanity exhibit in The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

To celebrate, Habitat for Humanity is building the frame of a house on campus. Grady Newsource reporter Morgan Weeks will have updates throughout the day.

This library will be the new home to almost four decades of Habitat for Humanity’s historical records and documents. Exhibit Curator Jason Hasty says UGA makes the perfect location for the exhibit because of the Habitat history in the state of Georgia.

Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent houses with the help of the partner families and sells them to qualifying families at no-profit and no-interest. Homeowners must repay the cost of building their home with no interest charge, and 100 percent of the mortgage payments go toward the funding of future Habitat houses. Athens Area Habitat for Humanity, an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing in Clarke, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties in the state of Georgia.

The CEO of Habitat for Humanity International Jonathan Reckford will speak about the new collection today. UGA President Jere Morehead will also comment on the special occasion.
