Student Teacher Shares Experience of UGA’s Hands-On Teaching Program

ATHENS — Victoria Anderson is wrapping up her last semester as an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia.

She spends every week day in a second grade classroom at J.J. Harris Charter Elementary School.

Grady Newsource reporter Lauren Pinion shows you how UGA’s teaching program lets Anderson plan and teach lessons all on her own.

Victoria’s favorite part of the day in interactive story time where she gets to read aloud to the class. They just finished reading ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’. In the book, Willy Wonka makes bubble gum that tastes like a three-course meal when the characters chew it. So, the class invented their own bubble gum. They blew balloons to look like gum and showcased their work in the hallway.

Victoria says she’s sad her student teaching days are ending, but she’s one step closer to teaching her own class.
