Citizens Stand in Support of Living Wage Policy

It was standing room only Nov. 3 at the Mayor and Commission Meeting. That was because dozens of citizens were present to voice their opinions about an Athens-Clarke County Living Wage Policy for city-county workers.

“Just because part time employees are given less hours, does not mean their work is valued less,” said Tim Denson, president of Athens For Everyone.

According to Denson, the policy would cost a maximum of $38,000. As of Sept. 11, 11 county positions in Athens-Clarke County make under a living wage, which is $10.17 an hour.
