Mother Shares Excitement About ‘Destination Dawgs’ at UGA

Students with intellectual or developmental disabilities will be able to complete coursework to earn a certificate at the University of Georgia beginning in 2017. Destination Dawgs, a new program, will accommodate these students’ needs and interests in post-secondary education. The goal is to give more students with disabilities a better chance to compete in the job market, according to Carol Laws, an assistant clinical professor at the Institute on Human Development and Disability.

Tina Vickers has a son with hydrocephalus, which is a condition where fluids surround the brain and the spinal cord, causing the brain to swell up. He has mental delays and is partially blind. He also cannot use his right arm. Vickers shared her excitement about her son being able to attend the college of his dreams.
