Georgia will not allow Syrian refugees into the state at this time, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Monday afternoon. Deal also said he will reach out to the Obama administration to check the backgrounds of 59 Syrians who recently resettled in our state.
Deal’s announcement came after more than a dozen other governors stated that Syrian refugees would not be allowed to resettle in their respective states. In his statement, Deal explained this stance would be taken until the U.S.Department of State re-examines these security concerns and establishes new processes for accepting refugees from Syria.
