UGA Students With Community-Minded Business to Take on Shark Tank

Friday, Nov. 20th, two Terry College of Business graduates from the University of Georgia will appear on ABC’s Shark Tank. The graduates started a company called Umano in 2011 as a way to help bring art education to disadvantaged children. Brothers Jonathan (BBA ’07) and Alex Torrey (BBA ’09) donate backpacks full of school supplies to poverty-stricken schools. On the show, they will pitch their ideas to a group of business leaders and entrepreneurs. The “sharks” will then choose whether they want to bid on the ability to become part of the company. The brothers will pitch to expand their business so that they can create a direct-to-consumer option through their website rather than only selling through vendors.
