ATHENS, Ga. – A male individual was removed from the North Oconee River on Tuesday after jumping in to flee from police, according to an incident report released by the UGA Police Department this morning.

The report states that staff members in UGA’s Chicopee Complex, located on East Broad Street, complained about a man walking in the building and appearing to be under the influence.  When police arrived to check on the man, he fled and jumped into the river.

Once he was brought out of the river, the man was voluntarily taken for medical evaluation.

We will provide updates as they come regarding whether any charges will be filed and the status of the individual.
