The Jackson County School system held it’s first rezoning meeting last night. Parents voiced their concerns on how the new plan will impact them. This is the first rezoning proposal in more than 10 years. The plan calls for the closing of one elementary school. Students at Benton Elementary will be sent to the Maysville and East Jackson elementary schools. Students who are in grades 4th, 7th, and 11th may opt to stay in their current school. However, the school system will not be providing trasportation. This leaves the parents with the decision of whether they want to keep their children in their current school for the 2017-2018 school year or allow them to move.

Superintendent Dr. April Howard says the board is working hard to make sure it accommodates everyone.

More updates to come.
