The Athens-Clarke County Commission has approved a project to make beautiful Greenway Trail even prettier. That’ll be done by adding art to the trail, giving cyclists and joggers even more to look at.

The commission approved the sixty-thousand dollar project on a seven to three vote. Commissioner Diane Bell said that it is unfair to the citizens of Athens to reject this project.

“It’d be taking it away from them what we’ve asked them to do,” said Bell. “And I know it’s already in process and I think it’s unfair that we would pull this back from them to be able to accomplish what they intended.”

The project will be funded by the Athens Clark County SPLOST, which is a special, optional sales tax that is used to fund things like parks, schools, and roads.
