The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Watchful Eye program this week. The program is a state-wide campaign  in which residences of registered sex offenders were verified as compliant with state regulations.

“The safety of the children in Barrow County is one of the greatest responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office,” stated Sheriff Jud Smith. “The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office will continue to be vigilant with state laws.”

As of Oct. 26, there are 140 registered sex offenders in Barrow County. During the campaign, 86 residence verifications were conducted. The department issued 4 warrants for residence violations, and registered one sex offender.
