Update: Boo-Le-Bark on The Boulevard

The Boulevard Community in Downtown Athens hosted their first annual Boo-Le-Bark on the Boulevard Parade. The parade is inspired by the Krewe of Barkus dog parade in New Orleans.cu6uon8w8aa4ll9

cu6uoohwgaabafdThe parade was limited to 125 canine participants wearing all sorts of costumes ranging from Stranger Things’ Eleven, Star Wars characters, Scooby Doo’s Crew, and more. The parade drew a large crowd of humans, lots of other dogs in costumes, and even a black cat.

According to the founder and chair of the parade planning committee, Ann Sears, the parade raised an estimated $4,000 for Athens Pet, a volunteer group dedicated to finding permanent homes for pets in the Athens area. The exact amount won’t be known for a couple of days.

The parade winded through the Boulevard neighborhood and ended at the back of Jittery Joe’s Roaster. The post parade “barktivities” included crepes, lots of dogs, a photo booth, kids activity area, and more.

The planning committee was pleased with the large turnout. They are going to take everything they learned from this parade to make next year’s parade even better.
