Classic Center Debuts Electric Car Charging Station

ATHENS — Charging your electric car in Athens just got easier. The Classic Center debuted its new electric charging station at the Thomas Street entry on Wednesday.

This is the second electric charging station in Athens. The other can be found at the Nissan dealership near Bogart. The equipment was donated by Nissan, and the installment was funded by the Charge Georgia Program, which is administered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority.

Customers will be able to log onto Greenlots to see when the station is free, how much it will cost and if it is working.

The charging station is a Level 3 Fast Charger. It is unlike other charging stations because it can charge a car in 30 minutes. The next fastest charging station takes four hours for the same charge.

The station will be free for the first six months.

Classic Center Assistant Executive Director Philip Verrastro explains some of the benefits of the new electric car charging station.
