There were no hate crime statistics reported to the FBI from the Athens area in the last three years. There was one hate crime reported in 2016 from the University of Georgia, which is treated differently then Athens.
But officials aren’t sure how these reports even get to the FBI.
The University of Georgia did report hate crime statistics this year.
The one hate crime reported is associated with race. We could not receive any comment from the University of Georgia marketing department regarding this crime.
